Serving the needs of men and women in jail and their families...

The Dismas Committee is comprised of individuals from the community who are familiar
with the needs and problems facing people in the criminal justice system. The committee
extends to individuals under arrest, convicted and imprisoned, preparing for release, or on probation
the following services:

  • one-to-one counseling and support for the incarcerated
  • pastoral care
  • religious services at Easter and Christmas
  • support for inmates' families
  • housing for ex-offenders who are homeless upon release
  • distribution of 2 stamped Christmas cards for all inmates in Nassau and Suffolk jails and juveniles in the detention center
  • Christmas gifts for inmates' families
  • bail relief up to $500
  • basic survival packages while incarcerated and upon release - free furniture and clothing
