Sharing resources with conferences on Long Island and in the Dominican
Republic...
Locally, conferences in more affluent communities are twinned with conferences that do not have the resources to respond to the needs of their community.
Internationally, the Diocese of Rockville Centre, Society of
St. Vincent de Paul, is twinned with the Society in San Jose de Ocoa
in the Dominican Republic. Conferences on Long Island support a number of projects in San Jose with financial aid and "people power."
Each year, a number of Vincentians from Long Island travel to San Jose to assist in several projects and programs, i.e., building homes, planting trees in the reforestation project, providing medical services and education. In
addition, the Vincentians help with environmental and farming initiatives undertaken by a coalition of organizations from the Dominican Republic and the United States.
