The UPLIFT Program provides temporary financial assistance, averaging $200-$300 a month,
from the District Councils and guidance from the Conference Members to enable these families to become self-sufficient.
The District Councils provide this service to their Conferences for the following reasons:
Conferences may not have sufficient funds to meet a family's need.
Conferences may not be able to make a long tern commitment to a family.
By pooling resources conferences can assist more people.
This program is administered through the Central Office Family Assistance Director
although referrals and contacts with the families receiving aid are handled by the local conference.
Funding is also available to the district councils from the central council to help financially
with the extra families that could be placed onto UPLIFT.
Vincentians send or hand deliver the monthly subsidy to the vendors,
families are not given the finances directly. All during this period,
the Vincentians meet regularly with the families in the UPLIFT Program
to assist them with budgeting, and other financial matters, furniture, food voucher, and
other resources of the Society are available to these families to help them get their lives back on track.
To be eligible, an applicant must have a reasonable prospect of becoming self-sufficient within two years and must make a commitment
to do what is necessary to help themselves.
